I am a Texas teen, and I wear make-up. Lip gloss or lipliner almost every day, and I often wear eyeshadow, eyeliner & blush. So do most of the girls in my school, and many of them started in 6th grade.
An adult who only knows me on the internet and has never seen my photo is worried that I will become one of those Texas women who buys make-up and hair gel in 50 gallon drums. Not a chance! But how much is too much? How little is too little?
And then again the liberal / conservative question. Do repubs wear more make-up? If so, why?

Dear Freckles,
I am that adult who knows you only through the Horn chatroom, but I’ve since seen a photo of you. This puts me in a position to say that you are a very pretty girl with perfect complexion! In my opinion, at 14 you don’t really need much make-up (if any) to enhance your features. Painting up a very young face quickly looks unnatural (remember JonBenet Ramsey?). A little mascara and some light colored lip gloss is really all you need. Here in Germany, it’s just not in style to walk around with colorful faces or perfectly groomed hairdos… for girls or women of any age…
As for Texas women… look around you and tell me if you don’t see a lot of mask-like painted faces, framed by a mountain of hair. That’s the way it was when I lived there, and Texas was a blue state then… I reckon it hasn’t changed since. Then again, I could be wrong…?
Do I think that Republican women tend to wear more make-up? Yes, I do. In my opinion, that comes in large part from the fact that they are less relaxed about the issues of everyday life and with life as a whole… and certainly about themselves as a person. That inner tension, stemming from the many constraints that their upbringing, and consequently their lifestyles places on them forces many of them to hide behind a facade of paint. Again, this is only my own personal opinion…
Keep up the good work on your blog, Freckles. You should be very proud of what you do. You are indeed a lovely girl!
Hugs,
Angelika
