Professor Wichman’s E-mail Claim:
A Michigan professor sent an e-mail telling Muslim students to leave the country. Status: True.
A mechanical engineering professor named Indrek Wichman at Michigan State University sent an e-mail to the Muslim Student’s Association. The e-mail was in response to the students’ protest of the Danish cartoons that portrayed the Prophet Muhammad as a terrorist. The group had complained the cartoons were “hate speech.”
This is Prof. Wichman’s email:
Dear Moslem Association:
As a professor of Mechanical Engineering here at MSU I intend to protest your protest. I am offended not by cartoons, but by more mundane things like beheadings of civilians, cowardly attacks on public buildings, suicide murders, murders of Catholic priests (the latest in Turkey!), burnings of Christian churches, the continued persecution of Coptic Christians in Egypt, the imposition of Sharia law on non-Muslims, the rapes of Scandinavian girls and women(called “whores” in your culture), the murder of film directors in Holland, and the rioting and looting in Paris France.
This is what offends me, a soft-spoken person and academic, and many, many, many of my colleagues. I counsel you dissatisfied, aggressive, brutal, and uncivilized slave-trading Moslems to be very aware of this as you proceed with your infantile “protests.”
If you do not like the values of t he West — see the 1st Amendment — you are free to leave. I hope for God’s sake that most of you choose that option. Please return to your ancestral homelands and build them up yourselves instead of troubling Americans.
Cordially,
I.S. Wichman Professor of Mechanical Engineering
As you can imagine, the Muslim group at the university didn’t like this too well. They’re demanding that Wichman be reprimanded and mandatory diversity training for faculty and a seminar on hate and discrimination for freshman. Now theMichiganchapter of CAIR has jumped into the fray. CAIR, the Council on American-Islamic Relations, apparently doesn’t believe that the good professor had
the right to express his opinion.
For its part, the university is standing its ground They say the e-mail was private, and they don’t intend to publicly condemn his remarks. That will probably change. Wichman says he never intended the e-mail to be made public, and wouldn’t have used the same strong language if he’d known it was going to get out.

You make old news, new again. Professor Wichman explanation of his ignorant email is as bad as the email itself.
December 11, 2006 at 11:14 am
You know, if a professor wrote an racist hate filled email like this about blacks or jews, he would likley be fired, if not actually charged with something. God help us all that it is now acceptable, even rewarded, to say the most hideous things about Muslims. Some people apparently cannot deal with a reality where things are complex, and have to blame all our troubles on a bogeyman. Damn conveniant too that the Muslim bogeyman showed up just when the commie bogeyman was fading into obscurity.
Sigh. JMO —Doug

Nice blog. I heard you on Air America and decided to check you out. Wow. You are 15 years old. I applaud your efforts!
This discussion got my attention. I have two criticisms:
The first about the professor: I think that a person in his position at the university should not be making such comments about students. I would agree that he should be at least reprimanded by the university. Free speech is not “free”. You cannot yell “fire” in a crowded movie theatre. Or a boss in a workplace cannot send an e-mail to all women employees saying that he thinks women are inferior to men and should be barefoot and pregnant at home. When hate speech is coupled with it being said by person who has a position of authority there needs to be closer scrutiny about the speech. I think the professor crossed the line mostly due to his position of authority. If he were just joe public saying what he said, then he probably would pass the First Amendment test…and I would be able to shrug it off and support his RIGHT to say what he thinks.
My second criticism is the blunt statement by presumably you that CAIR “apparently does not believe apparently doesn’t believe that the good professor had the right to express his opinion.”
I think that was a cheap shot. I have listened to a lady on TV who apparently was a leader in CAIR and she seemed to be very sensible about free speech for all and appreciate the fact that she could say what she felt in the US whereas in many other countries (including Muslim countries) she could be killed or imprisoned for such talk. I don’t recall the context of the TV program. But anyway, I think that statement should be supported by some specific comments by CAIR.
But it is your blog. And a darn good one.
Thanks.

Nobody in the above comments has said anything at all about the bottom line in the Wichman email: IS WHAT HE CLAIMS THE TRUTH?? If so, precisely how is it true? If not, precisely how not? General, blanket response does not cut it with me; I like documentation in my research. And I have good research that clearly points to Wichman’s emotional outrage being on target.
And this brings me to a parallel issue that has troubled me ever since 9/11: I cannot find ANYWHERE an official Muslim response that comes out and says that the Muslim terrorists are not Muslims at all, but servants of Satan, worshipers of a devil, or something like that. If anyone can show me a web page (an official Muslim statement, not a blog or opinion) that says that, I would be so grateful.
Contrast this with what Jesus said about those who kill in “the service of God”: THEY ARE NOT CHRISTIANS (John 16:1-3)!
July 9, 2007 at 11:06 am
So atrocities committed by Christians magically don’t count because of a Bible passage? Slick trick, and handy too considering how many innocents are murdered by Christians. @@
July 10, 2007 at 1:34 pm
Can someone explain to me how his statements are in any way “racist” or “hate-mongering”?
He objects to specific actions of muslims, and suggests that if they don’t like the west and our culture they should leave. Sounds good to me.
July 10, 2007 at 10:45 pm
My challenge still stands: SHOW ME THE SPECIFIC FACTS.
July 18, 2007 at 12:44 pm
Professor Wichman didn’t ask protesting muslim students to leave, he said: “If you do not like the values of the West – see the 1st Amendment – you are free to leave.” One specific fact is that Muslim laws and scripture does not believe in freedom of religion.
July 19, 2007 at 1:07 pm
i dont find anything wrong with the professors writings. if people who follow the muslim religon dont like it, then go back to india or afghanistan or wherever the hell you came from. if they dont remember 9/11 i have plenty of home videos to show them what their religon has done to the usa. i dont understand their stupid beliefs, and apparently they dont either.
July 19, 2007 at 1:16 pm
Adam, we have freedom of religion here. Please don’t condemn an entire religion or an entire group because of the acts of a few extremists.

F*CK YOU MUZZIES. ALL of them are guilty. You HAD better leave, and soon, because the reckoning IS coming.
And to those who would support them: DITTO.
August 8, 2007 at 11:53 am
There is nothing wrong with the professor’s comments!! Why should a professor not be able to express what he thinks just like we all are right now. It is not all muslims that are extremists, but if you come to my country and protest everything that hurts your feelings or you don’t like, GET OUT!!
August 10, 2007 at 9:33 am
Adam, it isn’t that the professor didn’t have the right to say these things, but a person in his position should not have handled the situation so unprofessionally. The students were protesting because of the misrepresentation of the Islam religion and the professor completely missed their point by once again associating all Muslims with those terrible acts.
And since when is this just your country? How do you know that these students weren’t citizens?

I am so very proud of this man, this instructor. He is merely voicing what millions of Americans are thinking and wishing they would go home to their own country and leave us alone.
Bless this man for his courage.

Please let me echo Professor Wichman’s sentiments to the MSU Moslem Association:
I protest your protest. I am offended by things like beheadings for political gain, cowardly attacks on civilians, suicide murders, the daily persecution and murders of those of faiths other than Islam, especially Christians, burnings of Christian churches, the imposition of Sharia law on non-Muslims, an unnatural hatred of Jews and Israel. These things greatly offend. I too counsel you dissatisfied, aggressive, brutal, and uncivilized slave-trading Moslems to be very aware of this as you proceed with your infantile protests. Many God fearing, freedom loving and patriotic Americans are watching you.

To unitedcats…You are a fool, with a big heart for your enemies..I would soon kill them, as they would me.

Professor Wichman is right on the mark. It is easy to see where most these responses are coming from. That is from Muslim’s trying to further their agenda of Hate in our free society. Islam is not a religion but a cult, a cult that eventually will self destruct because of it’s evil way of doing things. It is pathetic that people have to be brainwashed to this extent in this day and time. This cult is no more than slavery pushed by a group of morons that accomplish very little in life.

The proffesor has every right to express his views. In addition to his letter, here is what the Prime Minister Australia, John Howard has to say about all this.
Muslims who want to live under Islamic Sharia law were told on Wednesday to get out of Australia , as the government targeted radicals in a bid to head off potential terror attacks.
Separately, Howard angered some Australian Muslims on Wednesday by saying he supported spy agencies monitoring the nation’s mosques. Quote: ‘IMMIGRANTS, NOT AUSTRALIANS, MUST ADAPT. Take It Or Leave It. I am tired of this nation worrying about whether we are offending some individual or their culture. Since the terrorist attacks on Bali , we have experienced a surge in patriotism by the majority of Australians.’
‘This culture has been developed over two centuries of struggles, trials and victories by millions of men and women who have sought freedom’
‘We speak mainly ENGLISH, not Spanish, Lebanese, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, or any other language. Therefore, if you wish to become part of our society .. Learn the language!’
‘Most Australians believe in God. This is not some Christian, right wing, political push, but a fact, because Christian men and women, on Christian principles, founded this nation, and this is clearly documented. It is certainly appropriate to display it on the walls of our schools. If God offends you, then I suggest you consider another part of the world as your new home, because God is part of our culture.’
‘We will accept your beliefs, and will not question why. All we ask is that you accept ours, and live in harmony and peaceful enjoyment with us.’
‘This is OUR COUNTRY, OUR LAND, and OUR LIFESTYLE, and we will allow you every opportunity to enjoy all this. But once you are done complaining, whining, and griping about Our Flag, Our Pledge, Our Christian beliefs, or Our Way of Life, I highly encourage you take advantage of one other great Australian freedom,
‘THE RIGHT TO LEAVE’.’
‘If you aren’t happy here then LEAVE. We didn’t force you to come here. You asked to be here. So accept the country YOU accepted.’
Maybe if we circulate this amongst ourselves, American citizens will find the backbone to start speaking and voicing the same truths.
If you agree please SEND THIS ON

For those that assume that Wichman’s comments have been forgotten —– be reminded that they continue to reverberate throughout the ethernet. I was living on he economy in the UAE, the most enlightened of muslim countries, on 9/11. Even the most educated locals could barely suppress, in my presence, their glee at the murder of our citizens and were absolutely convinced that it was an Israeli plot.
Have you ever seen a live beheading? Have you ever seen a women stoned to death having been only accused of an impropriety? Pretty ugly! Can you imagine being jailed for handing out Christian literature? How about having a textbook banned because there was a picture of a pig in it?
Good on Wichman for having the balls to invite these true believers to go home. They add nothing to the American Way.
October 24, 2008 at 11:22 am
You have it so right Joe. They do had nothing to the American Way, except fear. If they and Barack Hussien and Michelle Obama are so unhappy with this country, I only wish that would simply of left it and returned to Barack’s homeland. Now, the most frightening situation may occur if the voting public believes all of his lies.
November 8, 2009 at 1:39 pm
I agree with Anavian. This country opens it’s doors to those seeking a place that will improve their situation in life be it for religious, political or economic reasons. Legal immigrants coming here are expected to obey the established laws of this country…like any other country on this planet…or suffer the penalties under those laws. If they don’t like the laws then they screwed up in their country selection and are free to leave…encouraged to leave since staying now makes them potential law breakers at some level because of their dissatisfaction. The MS professor did nothing outside the law in expressing his feelings. Screw anyone else that thinks they are the authority on what the professors boundaries for etiquette are. I have visited Australia and I have a lot of respect and admiration for the Aussies. They are a generous and friendly people and don’t beat around the bush when expressing their opinions. If it hurts your feelings…sorry mate, but that’s the way it is…and life goes on. Muslims are welcome here but don’t expect to come here and start changing our laws because your feelings are hurt. Return to you homeland and express those views there and see how far you get. You should welcome the fact that you are allowed to express your opinions and work on educating those that are ignorant of your ways so better understanding can be achieved…or leave. If you elect violent responses then expect violent responses from those you threaten.
