Update below!
Would someone please tell me why the story about Huckabee wanting to change the Constitution and start a theocracy here is NOT in regular newspapers? I am not allowed to use AlterNet or TPM or the blogs as sources for weekly “current events in politics” assignments. And if it isn’t even news for a high school history class, then it’s really not news for the American public!
Here’s what Google News Search had for the search terms huckabee “god’s standards” constitution:

Why not the New York Times or the Chicago Tribune or a newspaper my teacher accepts as real?!?!? Here’s what Huckabee ACTUALLY said:
“I have opponents in this race who do not want to change the Constitution,” Huckabee told a Michigan audience on Monday. “But I believe it’s a lot easier to change the Constitution than it would be to change the word of the living god. And that’s what we need to do — to amend the Constitution so it’s in God’s standards rather than try to change God’s standards so it lines up with some contemporary view.”
He’s a FFFFing candidate for President who has already won a state! Tell me why that this shouldn’t be front page news on all the newspapers this week.
Update: It IS in a real newspaper! Just not in the United States. The UK Guardian has the story.

Huckabye? Huckabee wants to have adulterers, homosexuals and rape victims stoned to death. He also wants to make alcohol and music videos illegal, and make women 2nd class citizens and to take all girls out of school.
Oops, my bad, that’s another ‘religion’.

Good column, Cassie! Here’s an article on the subject from Salon magazine that I found of interest…

I think if Huckabee somehow “miraculously” wins the nomination, this tidbit of information will be front page news.
Until then, it’s only a curiosity.

Go, Cassie, GO! I haven’t read a dead wood newspaper in years. Even in my big city, we have only one rag that depends on the Associated Press for national news. And by then I’ve already found it online days before.

Any chance of your teacher changing her so called standards?
BTW; Keep up the good work, you are making a difference!

Changing the Constitution to fit the Bible is an incredibly radical position. The MSM hasn’t reported it very heavily because – well, they’re the MSM, right?
The evangelicals haven’t been making noise because they *know* it’s a dangerous position. Keep it quiet, and he both remains viable and becomes their stealth candidate.
Great article, by the way…

The little three line update really drives the post home!
And as for Huckabee’s “make the constitution fit the Bible” line . . . let’s just say that I don’t think he and I read the same Bible.
